The Pentax K1000

December 30, 2007 Linh Leave a comment

So I’ve picked up the old K1000 again. I’m not quite sure what spurred it, but I felt like shooting B/W film again. So I got some tmax, fired some shots, and bought a 40mm pancake. Wait, what…

Yeah, I actually bought an old lens for this old film camera. Go figure, right? The incentive behind it was really wanting a portable SLR. The 20D is massive. So I’m trying out the K1000 again, and hence the 40mm pancake lens. That and it’s hard not to enjoy the manual advancing of the film… that sound is just so… I can’t explain it.

I have no idea if anything will pan out, as I’ve pushed tmax400 to 1600 at points, so I have no idea how bad the grain will be. That and developing this will be ~$20 a roll!!! Or about $80 in developing supplies, but that would last a good 15-20 rolls I’m sure. And it’s maybe a marginal $30 in total for more chemicals, if that.

I’m almost done shooting through my second roll. So hopefully SOMETHING decent comes out of it, and more importantly I don’t fuck up the developing. It’s been a good… 8-9 years or so since I’ve done it.
